Financing your studies and scholarship opportunities

We have compiled all the information you need about the costs of your studies at the Europa-Institut on our overview page "Finances | Scholarships". There you will also find financing and scholarship options and an overview of the cost of living in Saarbrücken.

Further information on financing your studies can also be found on the Saarland University website.

An apartment in a hall of residence or a room in a shared flat (WG) costs around €350 per month including utilities and electricity (a telephone and internet connection is often included, but not always!).

In addition, you will have to pay around €350 per month for food (there are many discount stores in Germany, such as Aldi, Lidl, Netto or Norma, where you can buy cheap food; if you don't like cooking yourself, you can get hot meals for little money in the canteen on the university campus, for example), television (please note that you have to pay the broadcasting fees), cell phone (there are cheap prepaid cards from various providers), books, leisure activities, medicine, etc.

Further information and a sample calculation of the cost of living can be found on the Saarland University website.

There are various ways in which you can live here in Germany for a year at a reasonable price. You can either rent a room or an apartment in one of the halls of residence here in Saarbrücken (you will need to look for a place in good time!), look for a room in a shared flat or rent your own apartment.

Please remember to carry out an inspection of the accommodation before you move in and record any defects or damage in a report. Also bear in mind that you must terminate the tenancy in good time before your return - the notice period is usually three months. In any case, you should decide in good time where you want to live during your stay in Saarbrücken.

When we confirm your study place, you will also receive an overview of accommodation options that students at the Europa-Institut have used in the past. If you have any questions in this regard, please contact us at application@europainstitut.de at any time.

In addition, the Housing Office of the Welcome Center at Saarland University will help you find accommodation.  You can also find more information about accommodation in Saarbrücken and the surrounding area on the Saarland University website.
