The state capital of Saarland is located at the heart of the European Union, and is closely connected to its European neighbors France and Luxembourg, holding a position as both a trade and exhibition center beyond its city and county borders. Cinemas, museums, theaters, concerts, opera, ballet – Saarbrücken certainly has something to offer on many levels. Annual artistic highlights include festivals such as the film festival “Max Ophüls Preis“ and the festival “Perspectives“.

The state capital's galleries and museums (e. g. Moderne Galerie) are open all year round. The bars and cafés in Saarbrücken's old town (e. g.  St. Johanner Markt) guarantee a cozy atmosphere. The street cafés in particular create a southern ambience in the alleyways of the old town during the summer months.

The festivals in Saarbrücken also attract numerous visitors. Highlights every year are the Primeur Wine Festival and the Old Town Festival with their culinary specialties, live music and events. One of the permanent attractions is the restored Saarbrücken Castle with its terraces, which offer a magnificent view over Saarbrücken.
