FDI Moot Court

In 2019, students and academic staff of the Europa-Institut participated in the FDI Moot Court for the first time. It was hosted by the University of Miami Law School in November 2019. In 2020, Europa-Institut students and staff will again participate in the FDI Moot Court.

The FDI Moot deals with a new area of international law that defines obligations between host states and foreign investors and relates to internationalised procedures (e.g. ICSID) for settlement and related disputes. This simulation helps future lawyers to gain a practical understanding of these issues. The case as well as the hearings offer a unique forum for academics and practitioners from around the world to discuss developments and assess new talents.

The FDI Moot spans approximately six months each year and is structured in two phases: This includes the preparation of pleadings for claimants and respondents as well as hearings of oral argument with regional or national rounds for Asia Pacific (Seoul), South Asia (New Delhi), Kenya (Nairobi), Ethiopia (Dire Dawa) and Viet Nam (Ho Chi Minh City), and pre moots in Budapest, St Petersburg, Sao Paulo and Warsaw.
