The Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Germany, Nasimi Aghayev, visited Saarland University in March 2025 to discuss opportunities for cooperation with representatives of the university.
Ambassador Aghayev was received by the Vice President for Internationalization and Europe, Prof. Dominik Brodowski, and Prof. Marc Bungenberg, Director of the Europa-Institut. Three students from Azerbaijan also took part in the meeting.
The exchange focused on the Europa-Institut and its role as an internationally oriented academic institution. Potential collaborations between Azerbaijani universities and the Europa-Institut were discussed, particularly in the areas of European and international law and economic integration.
The visit underlines the importance of international cooperation in the field of higher education and opens up new perspectives for academic exchange between Azerbaijan and Germany.
As an alumnus of the Institute, Aghayev emphasized the formative impact of his studies on his career path: “Studying at the Europa-Institut was an enriching and pioneering experience for me. I chose it because it offers a unique, interdisciplinary education with an international perspective. The excellent professors, the intercultural environment and the exchange with fellow students from all over the world had a strong impact on me both professionally and personally. The Europa-Institut has played an important role in my career path. Anyone who is open to new perspectives and wants to think internationally will find the perfect foundation for a successful career here.”
A special detail: one of the published photos shows a group in the Saarland representation in Berlin in 2004 - with the then student Nasimi Aghayev second from the right. It is a fine example of how Europa-Institut alumni remain connected to the institution over the years.
