Another successful participation in EuroSim!

From 02 to 05 January 2025, the Europa-Institut participated in EuroSim, organized by the University of Antwerp and the STRATEGO Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence.
This year's simulation of an EU legislative process involved adapting a real-life draft for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on the comprehensive regulation on preventing pellet losses to reduce microplastic pollution. The Europa-Institut students took on the roles of the Rapporteurs, Head of States, Council Ministers, Party Group Leaders and various Ministers of the Parliament.
The team from the Europa-Institut received three prizes from the EuroSim organizers. The participant playing MEP Emma Wiesner (Renew Europe) was awarded Most Effective Debater in the ENVI I. The participant playing MEP and Party Leader Katri Kulmuni (also Renew Europe) was awarded Most Effective Debater in the ENVI II. Lastly, the participant playing Lobbyist Patrizia Heidegger (European Environmental Bureau) was awarded Most Valuable Contribution from an NGO/Special Role. The team was able to use the legal knowledge and public speaking skills they had developed at the Europa-Institut during the simulation in Antwerp. The whole team worked very hard and committedly and cooperated well with the other participants to make the simulation as a whole a success.
Unfortunately, due to the timing of this year’s edition of EuroSim, the team was unable to participate in the pre-simulation extracurricular activities. However, after the simulation and before returning to Saarbrücken, the students and coaches spent a few hours exploring the city of Antwerp.
