Workshop on ISDS Reform and the Creation of a Multilateral Investment Court

On 1 October 2019, a workshop on ISDS reform and the creation of a Multilateral Investment Court (MIC) will take place at the Europa-Institut.

About the Workshop:

On 1 October 2019, the Europa-Institut at Saarland University and the International Investment Law Centre Cologne (IILCC) will organize a workshop on the reform of ISDS and the creation of a Multilateral Investment Court (MIC). The workshop takes place from 1-5 p.m. at Europa-Institut lecture hall (Campus, Building B2 1, Room 308/309). The IILCC Study Group on ISDS Reformwill present its report on the MIC. The report will i.a. cover questions related to the institutional structure and implementation of the MIC, status and selection of the MIC judges and the recognition and enforcement of MIC decisions.  The presentation will be followed by comments from Prof. Marc Bungenberg and an expert panel discussion.

About the IILCC Study Group on ISDS Reform:

The IILCC Study Group on ISDS Reform is a collaboration of young researchers that wish to constructively contribute to the ongoing discussions on the future of Investor-State Dispute Settlement. To this end, the Study Group is working on a report which summarizes and compares the two most comprehensive academic studies currently available on the design and implementation of a future Multilateral Investment Court (published by Kaufmann-Kohler/Potestà and Bungenberg/Reinisch). The comparative summary does not intent to include any evaluation of the ideas developed in both studies, but rather wants to provide an overview on the crucial issues relevant to the creation of a Multilateral Investment Court. In this sense, the Report might contribute to an informed discussion in fora such as UNCITRAL’s Working Group III on a possible reform of Investor-State Dispute Settlement.
