The library was founded at Saarland University at the same time as the Europa-Institut in 1951.
The library is the center of information about European and International Law, with numerous printed materials and electronic services. It serves as the information provider for our students, academic researchers, professors and the general public.
Guided library tours are offered on a regular basis in English and in German. The course "Information Literacy" introduces students to researching electronic library catalogues, legal and European databases as well as introducing them to academic research and academic writing in general. The library is supported by the customer-oriented services of a professional library staff. It is providing the users with assistance in literature searches and information sourcing.
There are 40 work spaces in the library, spread across two bright and quiet reading rooms. Students have the opportunity to reserve their own workspace where they can work and research in a quiet, yet stimulating environment. There are three rooms with whiteboards for groupwork. Furthermore, students and guests at the Europa-Institut can use the computers in the foyer of the library where they can access the internet.
The Europa-Institut library is a reference library and therefore only open to the public during the usual business hours. Books can only be borrowed from the library by current students of the Europa-Institut and only over the weekend.
