Academic and Professional Career

Born in South Africa on 17 May 1950. Attended primary school in Mozambique and South Africa. Secondary school in Feldkirch/Österreich. Attained Austrian and Swiss A-Levels in 1971. Law degree undertaken at Zurich University from 1971 till 1976. Completed a doctorate in 1978 (disseration awarded with summa cum laude). From 1978, assistant to Prof. Dr. W. Kägi and D. Schindler. From 1981, Bye-Fellow Robinson College/University of Cambridge. Joined the secretariat of the European Commission of Human Rights in 1983. Became head of division in 1991. Deputy Registrar at the European Court of Human Rights from 2001. Judge for Liechtenstein at the European Court of Human Rights since 1 September 2006.
