Professor Dr. Christos Vl. Gortsos
Christos Gortsos, Associate Professor of International Economic Law, Department of International and European Studies, Panteion University of Athens
Christos Gortsos is Associate Professor of International Economic Law at the Panteion University of Athens, as well as visiting Professor at the Law School of the Kapodistrian University of Athens and the European Institute of the University of Saarland. He is teaching international and European monetary and financial law, as well as economic analysis of law.
Professor Gortsos studied law, economics and finance at the Universities of Athens and Zürich, at the Wharton Business School (University of Pennsylvania), and at the Graduate Institute of International Studies of the University of Geneva, where he was awarded his PhD on international banking regulation (1996). During the period 1996-1998 he worked as research assistant at the International Center for Monetary and Banking Studies of the University of Geneva. Since 2005, he is a member of the Monetary Committee of the International Law Association (MoComILA), since 2010 a member of the Management Committee of ECEFIL, and since 2012 member of the European Group of Public Law (EGPL).
Apart from his academic career, Professor Gortsos, a member of the Athens Bar Association, is since July 2000 the Secretary General of the Hellenic Bank Association. In this capacity he currently serves, among others, as:
- Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Banking and Investment Services Obmudsman,
- Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Deposit and Investment Guarantee Fund, and
- member of the Board of Directors of the Greek automated payments clearinghouse (DIAS Interbanking Systems S.A.).
Professor Gortsos is the author of several books and articles on international, European and Hellenic financial and monetary law
