Studying Europe

The Europa-Institut, the second eldest institution of its kind in Europe, celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2011. More than 5,000 students from all over the world have been educated within the field of European and international law at the Europa-Institut since its foundation in 1951. Year after year, students from over 30 countries come to us to study the legal, political, economic and cultural foundations of the European Union and their impact in a globalized world. Our graduates hold top positions in European and international organizations, law firms, national governments and international companies.

We invite you to attend

  • our one-year Master's program "European and International Law", awarding the title Master of  Laws (LL.M.) to its successful participants. Our postgraduate study program focuses on European and international law. There are five modules - Module 1: Europäische Integration / European Integration, and Modules 2 to 5 with their Study Units Europäisches Wirtschaftsrecht / European Economic Law, Außenwirtschaft und Investitionsrecht / Foreign Trade and Investment, International Dispute Resolution and Europäischer Menschenrechtsschutz / European Protection of Human Rights.

We are looking forward to meeting and greeting

  • 75 students from all over the world, ready to start studying in an exceptional and interesting international atmosphere, each academic year. The mixture of nationalities allows for a polyglot and a unique cross-cultural environment.

We offer

  • highly qualified lecturers who prepare our students for the specific demands of the European and international job market. In addition to professors teaching at Saarland University, the Europa-Institut hosts international guest professors and lecturers from an array of countries. Amongst them are top EU civil servants from the Commission, the Council, the European Parliament and the Courts of Justice, as well as inspiring personalities holding top positions in the judiciary sector, business realm, as well as from the administrative and political sector.

We enable you

The Master's program consists of a unique mixture of lectures, seminars, interactive exercises, moot courts, language courses, communication skills training and discussions, and allows us to offer an optimal combination of theoretic knowledge and practical application.

We make sure

  • that we support our students in all matters, not only within the frame of the academic program, but also in the organization of their daily life in Saarbrücken. Dedicated and experienced staff members provide specialized study advice as well as counseling and guidance with regard to the visa application process and later on with matters such as finding an accommodation, health insurance, matriculation, fees and financing.

Last but not least

  • Regular excursions to various European Institutions form a natural and important part of the study program. Our widely ramified network - established in cooperation with our alumni organization EVER e.V. - enables students to interact directly with the "makers" of Europe.
