Prof. Dr. Christoph Benedict

General Counsel for Alstom Deutschland AG

Christoph G. Benedict is the General Counsel for Alstom Deutschland AG, the German branch of a multinational engineering company with 92 000 employees in 73 countries. Apart from Corporate work, his tasks have an emphasis on complex project negotiations and international litigation/arbitration. Before joining ALSTOM in 2001, he had worked as Legal Counsel for the International Projects branch of Züblin, a major civil contractor (now part of STRABAG-group).

 

Prof. Benedict holds a Doctor of Laws degree from Heidelberg University and a degree in European Studies from Institut Universitaire d'Études Européennes at Geneva University. As a doubly qualified attorney, he is admitted to practice both as a German "Rechtsanwalt" and as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales. He is also an Honarary Professor at the University of Wales, Swansea and, as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), London, he founded the CIArb's German Chapter in Berlin.

 

A former senior research fellow for Max-Planck-Institute Heidelberg, he has published on a wide array of questions of International Law, is co-editor of a renowned public procurement law journal and a member of a number of learned socities. He speaks five languages, has three kids and enjoys opera, skiing, sailing and tennis.
