Europa-Preis der Villa Lessing Goes to Four Former Europa-Institut Students

On 25 February 2010 four former Europa-Institut students were awarded the so-called "Europa-Preis der Villa Lessing". It was the first time that the prize was awarded. The "Europa-Preis der Villa Lessing" is endowed with 1.500 Euro and will from now on be handed out annually to up to four students of the Europa-Institut, sections "European Law" and "European Economy". In his opening words, president of Villa Lessing and former minister Dr. Horst Rehberger pointed out that the prize has been awarded and will in future be awarded for master´s theses that focus on the developments in law and economy within Europe and that put a special emphasis on strengthening liberalization and competition in Europe, on the European integration on a liberal basis as well as on supporting the European civil society.


Carmen Escandell-Reininger, Ana Luño Muniesa, José Júlio Gram Azevedo Moreira and Christian El Khoury were this year able to convince the jury consisting of the vice-president of Villa Lessing Christian Graf Dohna, the chief editor of the Saarbrücker Zeitung Peter Stefan Herbst as well as the directors of the Europa-Institut Prof. Dr. Torsten Stein (section law) and Prof. Dr. Christian Scholz (section economy). Saarland Minister for Economic Affairs and Science Dr. Christoph Hartmann gave a speech on Saarland´s position within Europe, before Prof. Dr. Torsten Stein held the honorific speeches for the four winners of the evening. After handing over the prize certificate and the checks, Christian Graf Dohna summed up the evening before inviting everyone to celebrate in the adjoining rooms at Villa Lessing.
